Consulate

Integrated Building Design Studio: Q2, 2023

A ground-up design for the Consulate of Ethiopia, on the corner of 20th St. NW & Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC. This consulate was designed to be the jewel in the crown of Ethiopia's presence in Washington; a place for the ambassador and his staff to work, host and entertain fellow diplomats and statesmen. Positioned next to a Doric bank, the consulate engages the discussion of the temple type, which aids a rather small lot in achieving the level of monumentality that the design team was aspiring towards.

While fundamentally a traditionally formed building, the design tastefully incorporates touches of modernity in its window treatments and rooftop garden, with careful consideration that these elements be aids to an otherwise classical building and not distractions.
