Ponte Castello
Studio: Q4, 2023
A redesign of Ponte di Mezzo in Pisa, Italy - currently occupied by a post-war concrete bridge. The Pisan relationship to the river Arno is constant and unobstructed, and unconvinced that a building actually belonged in the middle of the river, the design sought to minimize its footprint, instead prioritizing sightlines and framing views between the public squares on either side. Aspiring to appear as if it had always been there, the bridge respects the fortified medieval architecture at the root of Tuscany, while occasionally breaking out into flourishes of renaissance Italy.
